New Measures in short
As of Friday, the government advised all workers to work from home as much as possible. Preventing the health system from being overrun with Coronavirus cases, the measures came into effect today, Monday, December 6.
As the variant of Omicron is already detected in Switzerland, there is no requirement for travellers arriving from countries with the virus to undergo quarantine. However, all arrivals must instead undergo a Covid-19 test at their own expense before entering the country starting on December 4. New restrictions imposed to combat Omicron variant
A second test is mandatory between the fourth and seventh day of arrival in Switzerland.
The country is now experiencing an outbreak of Omicron and the Delta variant, which is still not under control.
Following consultation with cantons, the new package of measures will now come into effect following the presentation of the proposal earlier last week.
Every person attending a public event from today must display a certificate indicating whether or not the holder has been fully vaccinated, recovered from Covid, or tested negative for the disease. In addition, a previously granted exemption for groups under 30 has been revoked.
This requirement will also apply to more than 300 people outdoor events – instead of 1,000.
At events requiring certificates, masks will be mandatory. In addition, guests in restaurants and bars must be seated and provide contact details. The same applies when attending sporting or cultural events.
Covid certificates should be used at private gatherings of at least 11 people, but this is not mandatory.
Companies and event organizers have also been given the option of limiting entry to vaccinated or recovered persons – excluding unvaccinated individuals. New restrictions imposed to combat increased asses of Omicron variant
Rather than 48 hours, negative rapid antigen tests will only hold their validity for 24 hours.
Following opposition from some cantons, the government decided not to introduce compulsory mass testing at schools.
With the infections rising in Switzerland, the authorities consider increasing measures if necessary.
